Key rules for Pronouns After Prepositions

Never use a subject pronoun after a preposition

Dutch does not allow subject pronouns (ik, jij, hij, zij, wij) directly after a preposition. Always switch to the object form.

jou vs je after a preposition

The full, stressed form is jou and is standard in writing. In informal speech je is also very common after a preposition — both are correct.

Examples

Geef het aan mij. — Give it to me.
Dat is voor jou. — That is for you.
Ik doe het voor u. — I will do it for you.
Ik ga met hem. — I am going with him.
Zonder haar ga ik niet. — I am not going without her.
Ze woont bij ons. — She lives with us.
